After graduating from Elon University in 2002 with a B.A. in both Communications and Art and then spending a year working for the Elon Office of Admissions, I moved back to my hometown of Pittsburgh. There, I worked in a number of sales positions while studying film at the University of Pittsburgh along with Pittsburgh Filmmakers, one of the largest and oldest independent media arts centers in the country.
In 2005 I relocated to Irvine, Calif., and after working again in sales for a period of time, I took a position as a writer/editor with Landscape Communications, a publisher of three national trade magazines within the landscape industry. In my two and a half years with the company I produced and edited daily web content along with columns and feature articles for the monthly magazines dealing with landscape architecture, construction and maintenance. Also in my time there I was witness to the change in focus from print to digital, which aided in my decision to head back to Elon to be part of its inaugural Interactive Media Master’s program.
So, seven years and three time zones removed from North Carolina, I’m back at Elon on a path to retool my skill-set for the ever-changing world of new and interactive media. This blog is here to document that journey.
